about

Another "landmark" song for me. This is also the oldest (chronologically) tune on this album. It was written in late 1993, right around the time that I was deciding that I wanted to start having a hand in writing lyrics and melodies for songs I was coming up with, instead of only providing the music (which was the arrangement in the band I was in at the time). Of course, since I was living in the same house with my band, it's not like I could keep this tune a secret from them, and they heard it and really liked it. I insisted that I get to write everything, and even sing lead(!) on it.

This tune was played live at all three Stop Hitting Me shows that ever happened. The current incarnation of Half Zaftig has played every song on this album live EXCEPT this one. We never learned it. I'm not sure why.

lyrics

Did I paint you into a corner
Did I leave you no choice
Did I turn my deaf ear toward you
While you screamed away your voice
I thought by now it'd be really obvious
Where my head is at
I kept hoping you'd never want the truth
There could be nothing worse for you than that

Did I paint you into a corner
Did I leave you for dead
Are you sure this is all really happening
Or is it all in your head

You remind me of a girl in a silent movie
Tied to the railroad tracks
Smiling bravely in the face of danger
Who will save you now? Who will save you?

Whoa, the sky is falling
Your destiny's calling you
Whoa, your world is crumbling
If you needed more proof,
There's nothing worse than the truth

You live your life like you're living a movie
Now, you're down to your last reel
Smiling bravely in the face of danger
Who will save you now? Who will save you?
