The title phrase came out of my baby sister's mouth, whole. She was really tired, and she meant to say, "That wine makes my ears burn."
I love using the word "beer" as a verb.
Early on when working on this song, I was playing around a lot with building loops out of pre-existing drum performances. I finally got to use some of the drums that were recorded for me by Josh Woodman back in 1998. The rest of the stuff is the standard programmed drums like I always do. Loops are lots of fun, and I'm still very green when it comes to using them properly. Learn by doing and all that.
lyrics
My better angels are all gone
Fifteen years is a long, long time
I'm glad to spare you what I'm thinkin'
Good thing you're not a telepath
Marked territory brings me down
Sister, pour me another glass
That wine makes my urns beer
(Oh that wine)
Tornado Alley feels like home
Droppin' houses is a fave pastime
I have to wonder what you're thinking
You shoulda given me those shoes
It's always one thing or another, yeah
That wine makes my urns beer
(Oh that wine)
You know that it's prob'ly a bad idea
'Cause you don't know nuthin' 'bout this witch of yours
But you are willing to throw your caution to the wind
Oh yeah
That wine makes my urns beer
(Oh that wine)
