about

This song dates from the Stop Hitting Me days, and we recorded an entire version of it with words and melodies by Tobe Ramsey called "This Time." I think we opened our very first live Stop Hitting Me show with it.

Of course, the Stop Hitting Me version was big and loud and RAWKIN', and I felt that if I was going to revisit it, I needed to find a way to keep myself engaged in it, so we recorded it with all acoustic guitars and clean electrics. I like how it turned out.

After Stop Hitting Me ended, on a lot of songs that I had written the music for I threw out all the lyrics and melodies Tobe had done and started over. It's weird getting used to a song with one set of melodies and then hearing it with something else put on top.

lyrics

I watch the clouds across the sky
They remind me of summers gone
And days I wished away

Take me back in time
Where the golden sun still shines

Little boy, don’t blink your eyes
Listen - did you hear your mother sigh?
And she can’t help with what you need today
Oh, yeah

I’m sleeping with my eyes wide open
And I wonder where my time’s gone
Every dream I ever had is broken
And I can’t seem to find today’s

I am running after time
Far away I must fly
‘Cause all I’ve left behind’s
Another lonely lullaby

Don’t you feel the same?
Remember well my name

Little girl, don’t waste your mind
Listen – did you hear your mother sigh?
The flower pressed beneath the weight so old
Oh, no

I’m sleeping with my eyes wide open
And I wonder where my time’s gone
Every dream I ever had was stolen
And I can’t seem to find today’s
