The only time I've ever recorded with an acoustic 12-string. I borrowed Darin's for a couple of weeks to practice ahead of the recording, and I was really scared that I was never going to get through the session. Darin later told me he was worried about the same thing, but I actually got through the whole song in only a couple of takes.
"Salve" pre-dates any sort of live band for my material. As we worked on these songs, "Any Raw Flesh?" had been out for a few months, and it was becoming clearer to me that in order to promote these recordings properly I'd really need to find a way to perform live. Since I didn't have a band, and didn't know where to find one, I briefly considered the idea of learning a bunch of my tunes acoustically to go and play solo shows. The idea absolutely terrified me (still does), and these solo recordings were meant to be a "proof of concept" for the idea. I needed to prove to MYSELF that I could do it. And while I'd say that I like the acoustic recordings we made, for many reasons, solo acoustic shows never came to pass.
lyrics
Morning, time to rise and shine
While I watch my baby start her day
Showered, dressed by nine
Ready now, she closed her blinds
That’s OK, I’ll catch up on her way to work
Twenty feet behind
Oh, Whoa yeah
My friends all think I’m crazy
Oh, they have no idea
I’m no psycho in lipstick and heels
I know my love for Lois is real
Won’t read ‘bout me next to Manson, Gacy
When you see my love is real
I know when she comes and when she goes
I bugged all her telephones
and tape record her calls
Sometimes when she’s changing her clothes
I watch through my telescope
A grin beneath my nose
Oh, Whoa yeah
My shrink says I’m obsessive
Oh, he don’t have a clue
I’m no psycho in lipstick and heels
Can’t you see my love for Lois is real
Won’t read ‘bout me next to Dahmer, Bundy
When you see my love is real
