To me, this song is a cross between "Sesame Street" and David Lynch.
This was a melody written down on paper, completely devoid of any instrument. I probably wouldn't make up something so hard to play if I had a guitar in my hands when writing it.
I decided that since the melody was so relentlessly busy, the backdrop in which it lived needed to remain simple.
I can see revisiting this in different sorts of versions in the future - maybe a "teen-age New York" or "New Age" version? ;-)
