I hope you will forgive me for being so forward I have very good reason to be If I look desperate, that's because I am Whole lot of injustice left to be exposed There's plenty of names that I got to forget There's plenty of things that I don't wanna do And plenty of times yet to make a stand This isn't one of them Killing me (The waiting is) I have been so concerned about doing the right thing But it really hasn't gotten me anywhere I am now completely at your mercy Whole mess of laws that I gotta break Whole buncha lies I ain't discovered yet There's plenty of places I don't wanna be And plenty of times yet to make a stand This might be one of them Killing me (The waiting is)

Pep Talk 01:35
We've noticed that you're down But we know you did all that you could do You had that pilot dead to rights We're still looking into how the freighter got past our outer defenses Be that as it may We've been really busy We've built you a new slick ride It's called a "Super Star Destroyer" You're still the Dark Lord of the Sith You're still the Badass of the Galaxy Even your Master is afraid of you You'll get another chance to even up the score, yeah That shot was one in a million The rebels won't get so lucky again Turns out the kid who did it was just a little piss-ant farmer ...and did you hear his name? Get a load of this... His name is Skywalker Aw, come on, you gotta be kidding me! What kinda stupid name is Skywalker anyway?

Sudden Cake 02:26
You don't know what you'd do If faced with sudden cake Ain't no hard and fast rules To deal with sudden cake Nobody ever expects it We wonder from whence did it come here, oh no Sudden cake Drive a car ride a bike Hurry to sudden cake There's no dessert you like More than sudden cake Nobody saw this one coming We wonder what it wants with our town Don't mistake sudden for sodden Sodden means wet Sudden means: What the heck You totally surprised us We weren't expecting THAT Out of the blue Completely blindsided We have no contingency plan No need to fear cake No need to fear sudden cake

Xanthous 02:50
Coward you are Coward you'll be Someone should put you out your misery You're not sure how You got down this road You don't deserve to be the one in the know Stand up straight, you better suck that gut in Those shoes are scuffed that suit is awfully ill-fitting We're all assembled now so what's the big idea That's all you got? No wonder we're all sliding down the hill Coward you are Coward you'll be Someone should put you out your misery Cowards we are Cowards are we Leaving behind our yellow legacy Comb your hair there's one too many out of place And brush your teeth, that breath's enough to melt my face Please mind your manners, this might be your only shot Not much to show for promises you shouldn't ought to have made
5.
Quaver 03:36
You, you're not the villain I was told you were Still, one-sided stories leave a lot of holes to fill Not since our ancestors came down from trees Has prudent culling been so necess'ry Don't wanna point a finger When I hear your voice I hear a quaver Here, I'm giving back what I do not deserve Shills, all my heroes are confined in boxes Smilin' in profile A secret formula was written for I trust you'll guard it carefully evermore Uneasy feelings linger When you speak to me I hear a quaver
6.
Forty Today 02:15
I'm in the middle of the road, I guess If I'm lucky 'Cause the road could end any day or night I ain't done half the things I meant to do Had a head fulla "idears", guess they weren't true Forty today Kinda hard not to look back (Criticize) And wonder how I could've done it better (Know I shoulda) Forty today I can scarcely believe it (Second-guess) Sure hope I've made some years matter I know just what I'm missing But what can I do? Ain't got no wife Ain't got no kids But I gotta few friends when time permits What the hell was I thinking? I really don't know Done what I could To pay the bills But I ain't found nuthin' that makes me fulfilled Forty today How I wish I could go back (Do it right) And kick Younger Me in the keister (Don't be stupid) Forty today Just as clueless as always (Take a hint) The list of real choices gets shorter

JAS-puh? 04:04
Send a postcard to yourself Write down a secret you won't say out loud Ain't nobody knows You thought you were so smart You never saw this coming This can't be how it happens And now you can't stop shaking You always felt immortal No need to take precautions Nearly asphyxiated And now you can't stop shaking What if she hadn't been there? Still can't believe it happened You felt your face contorting And now you can't stop shaking You always know what's best

Goal Weight 03:10
Everything's gonna be so much better When I get down to my goal weight I won't have to worry anymore If I will fit in my airplane seat I won't have to hide from the mirror Like I'm some kind of vampire Everything's gonna be so much better When I get down to my goal weight The ladies all will come running 'Cause I'm the life of the party I'll finally be able to make some headway On clean energy Shove them aside Keep them marginalized Fatties gonna take yours Then they're gonna take mine First they took the darkies Then the chicks And now the gays Fatties are the last ones We can make fun of for days Seattle's mayor will propose Renaming the city after me The world's leaders will come ask me To bring peace to the Middle East Everything's gonna be so much better When I get down to my goal weight

Zeroed Out 06:57
Here he comes, it's the insurance man He's heading for the final go-round on the track He's been sitting idle for a real long time And he can keep it up forever, if he has to I've been saying I'll be fine (I know you're listening) That I could live without you, I was wrong (I know you're listening, I know you're listening) It's so much easier to live a lie (I know you're listening, I know you're listening now) It's OK, I'll keep this locked up tight I'll never tell you what I know Here he is, he needs assurance, man Someday he'll figure out it just ain't there This could be the best or worst idea you've ever had But it can't be either one until you own it I've been talking all this time (I know you're listening) I've been singing about you all year long (I know you're listening, I know you're listening) Had to look you in the eye (I know you're listening, I know you're listening now) The jig's up, there's no more room for dodging It's time to tell you what I know You can go now, boy - you're free You've served your penance full, yeah It's time to let yourself believe All of your accounts are zeroed out You can choose to leave that weight behind You can choose to dance and sing You can choose to live and love All of your accounts are zeroed out It got all turned around somehow (I know you're listening) And now I'm laying beside you all night long (I know you're listening, I know you're listening) I'm drowning slowly in your eyes (I know you're listening, I know you're listening now) That did it, we've crossed our Rubicon There's no more hiding what I know

about

"5240" is not an album, per se. It is an experiment I'm conducting this year - writing, recording, and releasing a new song every week for the entirety of 2009. Previous to this year, I'd probably never even finished ten songs in one year before.

And here it is, the fourth and final "volume" of the series. The project is now over, and I made it - 52 songs in 52 weeks.

I wouldn't read too much into these "volumes", as the songs are simply compiled in the order they were released over the last three months. In most cases, there was no "grand plan" or anything, I generally was writing the song only days before it posted, with no thought to any sort of "album flow." I'm grouping the songs in this way to make it easier for people who are interested, but maybe late to the project, to be able to download the year's output thus far in larger blobs.

This volume is called "Autumn" mostly because it was autumn while I worked on these tunes.

Most all of the songs here are "solo" songs, recorded by me, by myself, in my apartment. A couple of tracks have guest performers.

This was it, the home stretch. For the most part, the songs came fast and furious at the end, with real-life events and sickness being the main challenges to overcome in getting the project wrestled to a close.

If you followed along throughout 2009, I hope you found some songs you liked. It's going to be weird not posting a new song every Monday morning, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't looking forward to having a life (and normal sleeping patterns) once again. Thanks for listening.
