Snow Day 02:31
Snow! Snow! Snow day is here! Now! And we're not gonna waste it Stuck inside My gamble paid off I left my report card in my locker And told my Dad that I forgot it But I didn't Pretty sure he knows I'm Lying through my teeth, but What's he gonna do? What's he gonna do - 'cause he knows He's gotta go to work while I'm home alone in the... Snow! Snow! Snow day is here! Now! And we're not gonna waste it Doing homework inside I keep looking outside Looking for those tell-tale flakes in the streetlights Nothing yet This could still go so horribly wrong Got to get up early Listen to the radio Pretty pretty please, don't you say "two hours late" again The DJ just said there's no school today because of snow! Today's the day that we've been waiting for It only comes just once a year I'll leave my sister in a snow drift They won't find her 'til the thaw

Get on with it This might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen And if it isn't, well it's in my top five things Lower (come closer to me) You don't know what you got 'Cause you can't see what I'm seeing There's no need to be shy, there's no one else here but me I know you want to get on with it I know you need to get on with it I know you want to get on with it Just let me steal this moment I'm just enjoying the view
7.
So many people I trusted So many myths have gone Lost any need for religion How could I choose just one It feels like you aren't even trying It'd be nice if you'd at least pretend Ticking off items on both hands Legends with cracking facades Once you give up on the old ones Come back, we'll create some new gods Oh, not YOU! I didn't mean YOU! Never, never YOU! I wasn't talking about YOU!
8.
Deserve 02:16
You get what you deserve You built this fortress Now you can live in it Live in it Own it ...fucker We get what we deserve We built this fortress Now we can live in it Live in it

Inappropriate I know it's Inappropriate I shouldn't feel the way I do About you 'Cause it's not allowed I must be a really bad person All these barriers Are keeping us apart Legal, social, and expealidocial, yeah I guess we gotta play our parts We don't wanna be really bad people Inappropriate They'd say it's Inappropriate If there was anything 'tween us two I s'pose they'll never know Which one of us is a really bad person

I have seen the truth And it doesn't make sense I have seen the anchorman And he's wearing no pants Who ya gonna believe Who ya gonna believe in Watch and learn Follow along with the bouncing ball Hanker for a hunk of Slice, or slab, or chunk of Something more substantial Than sunshine filtered black and white Did what you said Followed the rules Never once asked for any proof Looking a bit silly Feeling kinda used I'm not the only one Who ya gonna believe Who ya gonna believe in Watch and learn Take a first step in a larger world Did what you said Followed the rules Never once asked for any proof Looking a bit silly Feeling kinda used I'm not the only one pissed off at you Hope that I'm wrong Honest, I do I just need something To look forward to And on that day, I'll be happy to say That you can color me corrected

That bridge won't come down That bridge won't come down Long as I stand here That bridge won't come down I whispered sweet nothings To the girl at the gate She shrugged and said brusquely "Sir, you'll just have to wait." That bridge won't come down That bridge won't come down Long as I stand here That bridge won't come down

about

"5240" is not an album, per se. It is an experiment I'm conducting this year - writing, recording, and releasing a new song every week for the entirety of 2009. If I'm successful, that means I'll have made 52 new songs in one year. I don't think I've ever finished ten songs in one year before.

With the completion of this second "volume", the project is now half over.

I wouldn't read too much into these "volumes", the songs are compiled in the order they were released. In most cases, there was no "grand plan" or anything, I literally was writing the song only days before it posted, with no thought to any sort of "album flow." I'm grouping the songs in this way to make it easier for people who are interested, but maybe late to the project, to be able to download the year's output thus far in larger blobs. I'll make a new "volume" every quarter.

This volume is called "Spring" mostly because it was spring time while I worked on these tunes.

This time, all of the songs are "solo" songs, recorded by me in my apartment(s). A couple of tracks have guest performers.

So much happened in this stretch of time - I had been unemployed for a couple of months straight at the beginning of the year, and thus was forced to move to a more affordable apartment. Somehow, I kept the output coming, but there were times during the spring where I really, REALLY came close to quitting. Still going, though.

I hope you can find some songs you like in here, and I'd love to see you come by Monday mornings to www.shawnfarley.com as each new song is "released." 26 down, 26 more to come (I hope). Thanks for listening.
