about

The last song written for this project, and the one that feels a little unfinished to me. I had a heck of a time figuring out what to do vocally in the verses, and I was re-writing lyrics while recording my parts in the studio. In a lot of ways, I feel like the version of this that Half Zaftig recorded for our "Retrograde" EP is better. But Andre LaFosse did some AMAZING remixes of this track for the "half-pint demigod" release. Check out the "Bad Craftsman" one.

I really like the music on this though, and the Beatles ending. And the guitar solo makes me laugh out loud.

lyrics

It was a half-pint demigod
That killed the golden goose
He had it all figured out -
Just say today’s secret word

Double-crossed
He looks doubly ready for saving
Anyway, at least he’s got himself a good head start

“Hand me that hairbrush, why don’t you?
I gotta make it just so…
Just so long as you’re waiting
Would you mind bowing down?”

And you were saying?
(What were you saying anyway?)

(Uh oh, you fell…)
As you were trying to explain it
(Uh oh, you fell…)
And you almost started making sense
(Uh oh, you fell…)
Now your face is turning blue, don’t hold your breath, ‘cause… I’ll wait for you, and smile
I’ll wait for you

She was smiling faintly –
and I started to say
“Has anyone built you a temple –
and may I be the first today?”

She laughed and said, “You rebel scum!
Now you’ll never get ahead –
This is one setback that you won’t soon forget!”

“Not exactly a dangerous game,” I said to Joan
(if that was her real name)
“You must be this tall to ride, it's not your turn to play, come back later when you've cleared your mind!”

Just ‘cause you got a bone to pick
Still talk to Joan, man (Go talk to Joan…)
Your problem’s solved, you threw a brick
You’re not alone, man

She doesn’t mind if you forget
Just talk to Joan, man (so much to say…)
She wants to talk to you (so much to say…)
So much to say… hello, Joan!
